“The judge asks the public prosecutor why the case should not be treated only as a case of rash driving. He further tells the public prosecutor that the normal rule is that if an appeal is admitted and sentence is not more than seven years, then it can be suspended. There should be reasons to depart from the procedure, says the lawyer. He asks the public prosecutor why Salman should be kept in jail till the case is decided upon. On the Kamaal Khan issue, the prosecution now seems to be on the backfoot.”
